Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia all received heavy snow, with some areas receiving 40 inches, the National Weather Service said. Washington, D.C., recorded as much as 28 inches, among the heaviest snowfalls of the past century. Some residents took to calling the blizzard "Snowmageddon" or "Snowpocalype."
